Helping the Loggerhead Turtles

On April 22, 2009, Kelly Thorvalson, program director of the Sea Turtle Rescue Program at the South Carolina Aquarium, and Barbara Bergwerf, photographer for Carolina's Story: Sea Turtles Get Sick Too!, traveled to Belton Elementary School to take part in our first Earth Day celebration.  While they were at our school, students presented a check for the money that was raised in the Love the Loggerhead Read-a-thon.  Kelly wrote about her trip on the Sea Turtle Hospital Blog: Children of Belton, SC, Do It Again!

Pirates and Book Characters

On Thursday, April 16, BES students and staff celebrated literacy. Students came to school dressed as their favorite character from a book. When students arrived at school that morning, they noticed a bunch of rowdy pirates had taken over the building! Students participated in pirate-themed lessons throughout the day, had a school-wide Book Character Parade, and brought their parents back to school at night for a literacy treasure hunt. A great time was had by all! Click on the link below to enjoy the pictures taken by our student photographers.

From the Principal

Mission
In partnership with the school, the home and the community, Belton Elementary School will foster an innovative environment which promotes effective teaching and learning and encourages students to Believe in themselves, Excel in performance, and Succeed in life.

Welcome to a new year at Belton Elementary School! I'm very excited about the year ahead of us, and I trust that you are too. If you were here last year, then you deserve to be proud that you were a part of a successful school year. If you are new to BES, allow me to assure you that you can look forward to an excellent education in a school full of teachers and staff who are committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure success for all of our students.
There are many things that students and parents can do to continue our progress. These include:

Students:
  • Be at school! Good attendance is very important. We can not teach you if you are not here and we have a lot for you to learn. (Also we miss you when you are not here!)
  • Arrive to school on time and stay in school all day. Tardiness and early dismissals hurt everyone by interrupting the learning environment for all.
  • Follow all school behavioral expectations.
  • Do your best. Whether you are at the top of your class or barely passing, your best is all that we ask.
Parents:
  • Show through your expectations and your actions that school is an important part of your child's life.
  • Have daily discussions about school with your child. Show interest in your child's educational progress.
  • Check your child's agenda daily. Look for weekly newsletters from your child's teachers and note important dates for assignments and projects.
  •  Keep lines of communication open. By working together we can find a way for your child to succeed.
Please visit our website often. As you can see we have a lot of great things going on here at BES. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me here at school. I look forward to working with you during this school year. I envision a school year with excitement as we watch our children learn.

Sincerely,
Adrienne Davenport, Principal
